Pelfrey said Saturday that "99 percent of my money" is tied up with the disgraced company, which has had its assets — and the assets of its customers — frozen by the U.S government on suspicion of being a Ponzi scheme.

Pelfrey's money was invested in Stanford by his agent, Scott Boras. Pelfrey said he is using a "little side account with Bank of America" just to pay his bills.

"It sucks not being able to get to my money and it's pretty scary, but what are you going to do? The economy is bad, and it seems like everybody's trying to get what they can get," Pelfrey said.

Boras' two other prominent clients on the Mets — center fielder Carlos Beltran and pitcher Oliver Perez — said they did not have their money tied up with Stanford.
