--RHP Chien-Ming Wang, who endured the worst start of his career in a 15-5 loss to the Rays Monday and has a 28.93 ERA after two starts, is still scheduled to make his next start against the Indians on Saturday. Pitching coach Dave Eiland told reporters he was still confident in Wang and that the sinkerballer has been throwing well in bullpen sessions.
--1B Mark Teixeira returned to the lineup after missing three games due to a sore left wrist and delivered the game-winning RBI with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. Teixeira, who missed just five games last season, finished 0-for-3. --3B Alex Rodriguez arrived in Tampa on Monday to begin baseball activities as he continues to recover from the hip surgery he underwent in March. Rodriguez told reporters he might not need a second surgery on the hip after the season and also said he hoped to make it back before the Yankees' target date of May 15.
BY THE NUMBERS: 0 -- Strikeouts by LHP CC Sabathia in his first start for the Yankees in the season opener at Baltimore. He took the loss after giving up six runs in 4 1/3 innings. However, he then allowed zero walks he had in his second start April 11 against the Royals, when he whiffed six in 7 2/3 shutout innings.
