--RHP Chien-Ming Wang is scheduled to make a start for AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) as he continues to rehab from hip issues. Wang, who got off to a miserable start, posting a 34.50 ERA before being placed on the disabled list, has been cleared to throw 100 pitches, which could put him in position to soon rejoin the Yankees if everything checks out during his outing. 3B Alex Rodriguez has told reporters Wang looked better to him when they rehabbed together at the Yankees' extended spring training in Tampa, Fla.
--RHP Brett Tomko was promoted from AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) on Saturday to aid the Yankees' struggling bullpen. The veteran had competed for a job in spring training and had thought he earned one after posting a 1.17 ERA but was demoted. With the bullpen failing to come up with answers, the Yankees turned to Tomko, who had yielded one run in 14 innings at Scranton. He allowed the same amount on three hits Saturday against Baltimore. RHP Dave Robertson was demoted to make room. --RHP Ian Kennedy, one of the Yankees' top minor-league pitchers, is scheduled to undergo surgery for an aneurysm in an artery in his right shoulder on Tuesday. Kennedy, who had struggled and lost his spot in the rotation with the Yankees last season, had been pitching well at AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) before landing on the disabled list. An MRI revealed the aneurysm and Kennedy will be operated on by Dr. George Todd, who performed the same procedure on former Yankee David Cone in 1996.
