On Alex Rodriguez's error
Hicks just as guilty ...

Re: "'Betrayed' Hicks: A-Rod's apology not good enough - Rangers owner angry after former star says pressure led to doping," Tuesday news story.

Nice try, Tom Hicks, but in the end, you and the rest of the Baseball owners are just as guilty as Alex Rodriguez.

You pay the man $252 million, and, when you want to make sure everything is on the up and up, you just ask him to his face and expect to get the truth?

Is that how it works in your corporate world, too? No, when you really want information in your corporate world, you do due diligence - hire investigators, ask people around the company, ask friends and associates of the people you want information about.

But you did none of that with your Baseball team. You just asked the players to their faces and took their word for it.

No wonder you were the owner of an All-Star squad of steroid abusers. And no wonder your Baseball team is mediocre at best - it matches your management style.

... for deliberately ignoring this

For Tom Hicks to say he's betrayed and can't accept Alex Rodriguez's apology or to comment at all on A-Rod's admission of using performance-enhancing drugs is ridiculous.

Alex Rodriguez and his colleagues are multi-billionaires. How? By selling cupcakes and butterflies? No, by being shrewd businessmen.

Yes, the owners pay them well, but they make lots of money off these guys. Of course, Tom and his friends knew what their expensive investments were doing. They made a business decision to look the other way.

Why? Money in their pockets.

Hicks and the owners are the source of the problem. They are the greedy drug dealers who have ruined Baseball.

A-Rod knocks news out of the park

I'm flabbergasted when a Baseball player can knock the economy, Iraq, Afghanistan, stem cell research and abortion off the front pages of our newspapers and occupy hours of news coverage on all our cable and evening newscasts.

And he only admitted to something he did five years ago!

The Powers That Be in Washington should get A-Rod to speak to the urgency of any legislation they wish to get passed. I'll bet that he'll get a whole lot more coverage.

Horace Cavitt, Frisco

A-Rod? I don't care

I don't place much faith in sports stars. Alex Rodriguez is no star. The real heroes don't get credit. It's these clowns who happen to make the news.

Who cares about A-Rod? He is such a hero for taking $275 million from the New York Yankees. Hey, President Barack Obama, maybe you could take some of his money for the bailouts.

Jim Guittard, Dallas

Some lawsuits could solve this

It would not be out of place for Tom Hicks to sue Alex Rodriguez for breach of contract, for use of steroids and publicly admitting that use.

He should sue to recover A-Rod's pay from the years he admitted use.

Of course, George Steinbrenner suing him would be wishful thinking. If other players admitted usage and the owners sued, what a message that would be.

Take a closer look, folks

Perhaps there are more than a few folks who owe Jose Canseco an apology. If so, the line forms to the left. Make sure that you line up directly behind Bud Selig and the rest of the owners of Major League Baseball who ignored the problem.

And why did they ignore it?

Because by doing so, it helped to put fannies in the seats of their dying sport.

Also this adds fuel to my argument that Barry Bonds was not the only player who might have used performance-enhancing drugs. The national media and especially that all-around pompous idiot, Bob Costas, need to take a real close look at themselves. Because, based on their assessment, it was clear that Bonds was the only juicer in the entire Baseball world.

Curt Schilling has called for the release of all 104 names of players who tested positive. That way, hopefully, there can be an honest discussion of what took place and perhaps an agreement on how to make sure that this doesn't happen again.

But I have no illusions that MLB will do anything of the sort. By the start of spring training, all heads will immediately return to the sand.
