Pavano, Indians OK contract:
The Cleveland Indians and free-agent pitcher Carl Pavano, a four-year bust with the New York Yankees because of injuries, agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million contract on Tuesday.
Indians general manager Mark Shapiro said that Pavano, who turns 33 on Thursday, is guaranteed a spot in Cleveland?s rotation as long as he?s healthy following spring training. Pavano can make another $5.3 million in performance bonuses, based on starts from 18-35 and innings from 130-235.
Pavano spent most of the past four years on the disabled list with shoulder and elbow issues. He made only 26 starts and went 9-8 with a 5.00 ERA for the Yankees, who signed him to a deal worth $39.95 million before the 2005 season.
Harrison investigation ongoing:
Philadelphia prosecutors have concluded that a gun owned by Indianapolis Colts star Marvin Harrison was used in an April shooting, but they still can?t determine who pulled the trigger.
Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham on Tuesday announced that five bullet casings found at the North Philadelphia shooting scene came from Harrison?s handgun. But investigators have conflicting witness accounts of who fired it.
No charges have been filed in the April 28 shooting, but Abraham says the investigation continues. The victim has sued Harrison, saying he was seriously injured.
The Pro Bowl receiver is originally from Philadelphia. In 12 seasons with the Colts he has set team records in every major receiving category.
BC coach interviews with Jets:
Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski interviewed with the New York Jets about their coaching vacancy Tuesday despite the risk of losing his job with the Eagles.
The interview was confirmed by a person with knowledge of the meeting who did not want to be identified because there was no announcement from the Jets or Boston College.
On Sunday, BC athletic director Gene DiFilippo said Jagodzinski could be fired if he went ahead with the Interview/
Jagodzinski, 45, had been an NFL assistant coach for the eight seasons before taking the BC job in 2007 after Tom O?Brien left for North Carolina State.
