PITTSBURGH (AP) - EDs: APNewsNow.

Eric Hacker, recently designated for assignment by the New York Yankees, has been traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Romulo Sanchez in a swap of minor league right-handers.

Hacker was 1-2 with a 6.03 ERA with 20 strikeouts in six starts with Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He was designated for assignment on May 9, when New York had 10 days to trade, release or waive him.

Sanchez was 1-0 with a 4.60 ERA in 26 games with the Pirates in 2007 and 2008. He was 1-0 with a 4.38 ERA in 10 games with Triple-A Indianapolis this season.

To make room for Hacker on their 40-man roster, the Pirates shifted left-hander Phil Dumatrait from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
